Introduction
SURGBOND is ready-to-use, n-Butyl 2-Cyanoacrylate product can be used for the closure of minor/low tension skin wounds, including surgical and laproscopic incisions, and trauma induced lacerations and where appropriate can be combined with deep dermal stitches
SURGBOND seals the skin in approximately 10 seconds and will stay in place for five-eight days, whilst protecting the patient from microbial penetration and risk of infection
Cyanoacrylates present in SURGBOND are derivatives of acrylic acid. It is liquid in its monomer form and polymerises quickly as it comes into contact with water or body moisture The polymeric matter forms a thin layer on the skin which holds the skin edges together tightly. This property enables the use of Surgbond in closure of incisional as well as post-traumatic wounds
Composition
Each ampoule of Surgbond contains: n-Butyl-2-Cyanoacrylate
Three SKU’s- 0.25 ml, 0.50 ml and 1.00 ml
Benefits
Bio-compatible
Butyl cyanoacrylates are inert and non-toxic. They produce less oedema, inflammation and granules than sutures
Quick adhesion
Binds tissues faster than sutures. It polymerises & solidifies within a minute on contact with body moisture and seals the wound almost immediately
Excellent haemostatic effect
When injected endoscopically into the bleeding varices, it is reported to stop the bleeding in upto 93% cases within a single session
Enhanced cosmetic appeal
Single linear scar was seen after SURGBOND (n-Butyl 2-Cyanoacrylate) use
Features
A gentle alternative
for the patients:
-
Reduced patient anxiety: No need for a return visit to remove sutures or staples
-
One layer application required for strong and secure closure
-
Increased aesthetic look after closure – no track marks compared to suture closure / skin stapler
-
Lower cost and less wastage
-
Durable and flexible coverage
-
Complete skin healing within 5-10 days
An easy alternative
for the clinician:
-
Significant reduction in O.T. time
-
No need to refrigerate: Adhesive can be stored at room temperature
-
Excellent tensile strength
-
Seals wound against microbial penetration
-
May eliminate the use of sharps, and therefore reduces the risk of needle-stick injury
-
Bacteriostatic, and hence reduces the risk of infection
-
Shelf life of 36 months
Advantages of surgbond over sutures and staples
The maximum bonding strength is achieved within a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the place of application
Its strength is equivalent to healed tissue at seven days post repair
Staples or sutures are likely to cause wound disruption or infection, whereas application of Surgbond to tissue results in polymerization, resulting in a strong tissue bond that holds the wound edges together
Rapid removal of the suture can result in weak wound tensile strength, resulting in a widened scar, while late removal can result in scar formation due to inflammation. However, Surgbond increases aesthetic look after closure – no track marks compared to suture closure / skin stapler
It saves time during wound repair
It can be applied using only a topical (over the skin) anesthetic without any need for needles
It can be applied using only a topical (over the skin) anesthetic without any need for needles
Suture is time consuming, operator dependent, and there is a risk of needle-stick injury. Surgbond reduces the O.T. time, and closes the wound almost instantaneously
